This is how the firealarm system works.

The entire condominium is connected to a common fire alarm system. If the alarm goes off in one apartment, it will notify the apartment internally for 5 minutes first, then the alarm will be forwarded to the fire brigade and the rest of the building. An alarm in the common areas or triggered by sprinkler detectors, will alert all residents and the fire department immediately. The fire alarms will basically only be triggered by gas and smoke. Nevertheless, in some cases they can be triggered by strong water vapor from, for example by cooking or smoke from use of toasters.

If the alarm goes off in your apartment

If the alarm only goes off in your apartment, then you have triggered it. If there is a fire, the fire brigade must be contacted immediately at 110. Break one of the red fire alarms (boxes) at the exit doors so that everyone in the building is notified. In the event of a false alarm, you have 5 minutes to reset the alarm before the building and the fire brigade are notified, or eventually call the fire brigade. Reset the alarm by turning the key hanging on the control panel 90 degrees to the right and holding down the red button for 5 seconds. If this is not done and the fire brigade moves out, the apartment that triggered the false alarm will be charged with the emergency call of around NOK 11,000.

If the alarm goes off in the whole condominium

Evacuate the apartment or the building where you are situated. Try to find out where the alarm has been triggered (address) by examining the fire station (fire display) at the 1st floor by the front door in each stairwell. Pass this information on to the fire brigade when they arrive, to make their response more effective. The fire brigade that arrives has keys to all the doors, but feel free to help them find them.
